Power of Attorney

A Power of Attorney that requires notary intervention must be drawn out by public instrument (at a Notary or Consulate).

Australian Public Notary:

Powers of Attorney can be drawn out by an Australian Public Notary, authenticated by Apostille at DFAT (Link) and translated to Portuguese (link)

NOTE: Powers of Attorney are made by appointment only.

Necessary documents:

  • Identity card (Bilhete de Identidade) or citizen card (Cartão de Cidadão) and NIF (Portuguese tax file number);
  • Draft of the legal document in computer-readable format Microsoft Word by email.
  • Details of the party (s) including full name, civil status, address, place of birth, Identity card and NIF and marital agreement
  • Details of the representative (s) including full name, civil status, address, place of birth, Identity card and NIF
  • Details of Interpreter  (link translators ) if applicable**


Appointments:
The reading of the power of attorney is scheduled after Bank transfer is confirmed in the amount of AUD 74.40*

 **Non Portuguese speakers

-In the case of one Portuguese speaker and one non-speaker, the parties will need to bring an interpreter to the Consulate on the day of the reading.

-If all parties are non Portuguese speakers the Power of Attorney should  be drawn out by an Australia Public Notary, authenticated by Apostille at DFAT and translated to Portuguese.
