Long stay visa for Portugal

General requirements:

  • Apply online through http://www.secomunidades.pt/vistos;
  • Application form (completely filled in online), with 1 passport type photo;
  • 1 ID photo;
  • Valid Passport and return visa to Australia (validity must extend until at least 3 months after the end of planned journey);
  • Police certificate (name and full fingerprint check Australia wide);
  • Contact details for the place where you will be staying in Portugal (address, phone numbers and email);
  • Letter explaining the reasons of applying for this Visa;
  • Copy of medical and travel insurance cover your stay in the Schengen States;
  • Bank statements from the last 3 months.

Processing Times: Up to 60 days

Note: there is no guarantee that a visa will be issued and that additional information and/or documents may not be required.

 

Specific requirements depending on the purpose of travel:

Intend to work for an enterprise

  • Working contract agreement from a Portuguese enterprise approved by the IGT (Inspeção Geral do Trabalho) and IEFP (Instituto do Emprego e Formação Profissional)

Intend to work independently

  • Documentary evidence of investment registration in Portugal.

Liberal Profession

  • Documentary evidence of your qualification to work in Portugal. The document has to be approved by Portuguese Professional Guild.

Pensioner/retired

  • Documentary evidence that you are a pensioner / retired, the amount you receive and the proof that it will be received in Portugal.

Income

  • Documentary evidence of the existence and the amount of such income and its availability in Portugal.

Religion

  • Declaration of the organisation that you belong to, who shall be responsible for any document provided.

Intend to study

  • Documentary evidence about your enrolment in a Portuguese School/University.

Amateur Sports Activity

  • Document from the competent federation confirming the sports activity; statement of responsibility signed by the association or sports club on housing, health spending and costs by returning to the country of origin.
